कॉलम में नाड़ी का अर्थ जो बताया है वह अब तक की मेरी सोच या ज्ञान से बिल्कुल अलग है। मेरे लिए इसके बारे में कल्पना करना भी संभव नहीं था। यह जानकारी भी रोचक के साथ ही महत्वपूर्ण थी कि पाइप या जल प्रवाह के साधनों की उत्पत्ति के मूल में वे वनस्पतियां या पेड़ पौधे हैं जो अंदर से पोले हैं। इस लेख से एक घटना भी ताजा हो गई। मेरी मां एक अध्यापिका है और वे स्कूल से पेपरों की कॉपी घर ले आती थी एक बार एक कॉपी देख रहा था तो पता चला कि एक लड़की ने जल प्राप्ति के साधनों में जेट पंप, पानी की मोटर, फ्रिज और घड़े जैसी चीजें लिखी थीं। यह उसकी नितांत मूर्खता या अज्ञानता हो सकती है लेकिन जिस तरह हम लगातार आधुनिकता और तकनीकी उन्नतिकरण की दौड़ में शामिल हुए हैं संभव हैं आने वाले समय में बच्चों को इस बात का अहसास भी न हो कि पाइप, नाड़ी या नलिनी शब्द के मूल में क्या है ऐसे में यह कॉलम उनके लिए बेहतरीन मार्गदर्शक साबित हो सकता है। मेरा मानना है कि आज लिखा गया हर शब्द कल इतिहास इजारबंद को बंधने के स्थान को नेफा कहते हैं। हमारी माताजी के मुंह से अक्सर यह शब्द सुना है। वे हरिद्वार की हैं जहां की हिन्दी पर पश्चिमी प्रभाव ज्यादा है। नेफा मूलतः इंडो-ईरानी परिवार का शब्द है। यूं तो फारसी से आया शब्द है पर इसके मूल में नाभि को पहचाना जा सकता है। शरीर का मध्यबिन्दु नाभि है। कमरबंद या इजार बंद को बांधने की जगह नाभि से ही तय होती है। संस्कृत का नीवि शब्द भी इसी श्रंखला में आता है जिसका अर्थ कमर से ऊपर बांध कर पहने जाने वाला वस्त्र, गठान, इजारबंद, नाड़ा आदि होता है। संस्कृत के नीविबंध शब्द से जाहिर है कि लहंगानुमा एक पोशाक नीवि कहलाती थी। पंजाबी में ही नहीं, कुछ अन्य क्षेत्रीय भाषाओ में भी नाला या नाल का अर्थ नाड़ा अर्थात रस्सी, \u003cbr /\u003eचेन या श्रंखला होता है। मालवा, जहां मैं रहा हूं, चेन या श्रंखला के लिए नाल शब्द सुनता रहा हूं। जहां तक मैं समझता हूं, नाल गड़ना मुहावरे का अभिप्राय नाभिनाल, नाभिसूत्र या जन्मनाल से है। इसका घोड़े की नाल से संबंध नहीं है। नाल के जरिये ही ( प्लेसेंटा ) ही दरअसल शिशु और मां के बीच जैविक संबंध रहता है। जन्म के बाद भी यह नाल शिशु की नाभि से जुड़ी रहती है, जिसे बाद में अलग कर गोपनीय स्थान पर रख दिया जाता है। यह नाल एक किस्म के जुड़ाव का प्रतीक होती
